Prochlorperazine Maleate
Dopamine and histamine antagonist prochlorperazine. The blocking of histamine H and dopamine D2 neurotransmitter receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and vomiting centre is the mechanism of antiemetic activity. It also has a modest anticholinergic action and helps to prevent acid reflux by raising the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter.
Antiemetic-
Children (not recommended for children under the age of 10 kg or two years):
Adults: 5-10 mg three to four times per day; normal maximum: 40 mg per day
Antipsychotic-
Children (not recommended for children under the age of 10 kg or two years):
Adults: 5-10 mg 3-4 times/day; for severe disorders, dosages up to 150 mg/day may be required in some patients.
Nonpsychotic anxiety-
Prochlorperazine can be taken regardless of what you're eating.
Alcohol, barbiturates, and other sedatives may have a more depressing effect on the CNS. Antacids, antiparkinson's medications, and lithium may interfere with Prochlorperazine absorption. Propanolol and phenobarbital plasma concentrations may be affected by this medication.
Hypersensitivity to prochlorperazine or any other component of the formulation, severe CNS depression, coma; not to be used in children under the age of two years or weighing less than ten kilograms.
Drowsiness; muscle spasms in the jaw, neck, and back; fine worm-like tongue motions; rhythmic face, mouth, or jaw movements; sluggish or difficult speech; difficulty swallowing; tremors; shuffling walk; skin rash; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
There has been no proof of this drug's side effects during pregnancy or lactation.
When conducting duties that need awareness, such as driving or operating machinery, exercise caution. Alcohol consumption might result in excessive sleepiness. This drug may make you more sensitive to the sun. Sun exposure should be avoided for long periods of time, and sunscreen and protective clothes should be worn whenever someone is exposed to the sun. As a result of the medication's ability to suppress perspiration, it makes it more susceptible to heatstroke.
